We’re seeing wildfire smoke in the sky, although it’s way, way up in the atmosphere, not messing with our breathing or threatening our homes. I feel for those of you affected by this in a real way, and not just seeing haze. Still, this is pretty amazing considering how far we are from the fires.
It’s really hard to find the source of the smoke we’re seeing, but anyway, it’s not close. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but kind of busy and a little bit inconsistent - I loaded it once and it showed huge smoke plumes from California, Oregon, Washington (obviously) yet none of those quite reached New Hampshire; a few minutes later it didn’t show those at all, but it did show clear plumes trailing over us. Basically there’s a lot going on out there / up there, and some of it’s going over us right now.
Stay safe out there, left coast Oppos.

Shit, it was hazy in OK the other day, but I didn’t even consider it.

I’ve only left the house to go get groceries, it got a lot worse this week, before that it was just waiting for better times to get Sylvie to the dog park. I thought it was going to stay like that and then get better, oh 2020 you are so cheeky, you tricked us again. This is worse than the first lockdown, we can’t even take socially distanced walks.

Same, I just realized why we haven’ t had a *clear* sunny day in a while.
I’m dumb.......

It’s easy to think of that happening “way over there”, but we’re really all more connected than we think...
My sister’s family and a
niece live in California, so it has been on my mind.

Shouldn’t that be more like:
With apologies to Milwaukee...

It’s been raining here since last Monday pretty much so I hadn’t noticed until today, a supposedly “clear sunny day” how hazy it is. It’s nuts.

Oh, sure! “Major” cities. Like us peons don’t count! Not that we do, but I don’t like to be reminded of it. And 417 is the number here while Eugene is 408. https://www.airnow.gov/?city=Spokane&state=WA&country=USA

I recall back in the early aughts the forest fires in Canada affected us in New England. I had to file IFR when I flew because the smoke had reduced airborne visibility pretty badly. (even for local flights) It was crazy.

Wow, we have a fire in Florida - I didn’t know anything about it. It has been a very wet summer, so I am surprised.

I saw some from other cities this morning that were much worse. They were w ell o ver 500 so while this bad it could be worse.

Yours might be higher too.

gross. I think that my area is a little higher, we’re right against mountains and in the valley

I remember that too. Now every time I think it looks hazy but I don’t feel the humidity, I check the forest fire map. This one I think is pretty new, or at least new to me.

Scary that Delhi and Beijing are that high up there but not because of forest fires. That won’t blow out next month.

Yeah I often think when it’s hazy but I don’t feel the humidity, hmm let’s look at the forest fire map. After one incident some years ago, I think of it often now.

It was super dry and cool here today, it should have been crystal clear but it wasn’t at all.

Seriously, 2020 just isn’t done with us yet. I wouldn’t bet against a sharknado by year’s end.

Sunny and “clear” skies here on the eastern border of Iowa with low humidity , yet it was hazy as hell all afternoon and evening. Craziness!

Yeah you’re in an overlap on that map of several tracks of smoke. It was funny, the other day I could see a gray line in the sky, totally clear to one side and gray to the other. In hindsight, it was definitely a line of smoke way up there.
